Orientation

Learn about Bienvenidos’ values, roles, and programs.

Choose a volunteer track:

Client-Facing

These volunteers engage directly with the families and individuals Bienvenidos supports. Most roles require some Spanish (does not have to be fluent) and a commitment to culturally responsive interaction. Not all positions are ongoing — some may be event-based or as-needed.

You can commit to an ongoing role—like volunteering 2 hours a week for 3 months—or simply join our on-call list to help with one-time events or monthly volunteer opportunities, based on your availability and interest. Or both!

Behind the Scenes

Operations and Impact roles are for volunteers who like the work behind the scenes and continue supporting Bienvenidos’ mission. You may join any of these roles even if your onboarding track was client facing.

Volunteer Pathways

Client-Facing Volunteer Roles

Navegadores / Navigators

Our Navegadores are the friendly, resourceful first point of contact for many of the families we serve. These volunteers are trained on-site and supported every step of the way by HRDC staff and the Bienvenidos team.

As a Navegador, you’ll help create a welcoming environment and provide hands-on support across a wide range of tasks, including:

  • Greeting clients and visitors at the front desk

  • Assisting with basic paperwork or intake forms

  • Watching over children while parents meet with staff

  • Helping individuals navigate resources, including filling out forms or translating basic (non-legal, non-medical) documents

  • Meeting with Bienvenidos clients by appointment to support access to a specific service

You’ll never be on your own—HRDC and Bienvenidos staff are always nearby to assist, and you’ll also be able to connect with Bienvenidos’ Staff Community Navigator when needed.

This is a great fit for volunteers who are adaptable, organized, and comfortable interacting with the public in both English and Spanish.

Prerequisites:

  • Advanced Spanish proficiency

Training: After completing a 1.5-hour training, volunteers shadow an HRDC staff member for several shifts to gain familiarity and confidence before transitioning into independent shifts.

Time Commitment: Volunteers are expected to commit to at least one shift per week for a minimum of three months at HRDC.

  • Mondays: 1–4 PM
  • Tuesdays: 1–4 PM & 5–7 PM
  • Wednesdays: 1–4 PM
  • Thursdays: 1–4 PM
  • Fridays: 8:30 AM–12 PM
Legal Immigration Advocates

Examples:

  • Support intake for legal screenings
  • Serve as liaison between families and legal partners

Training Required: Yes (extensive and mandatory) 40 hours + study time

Prerequisites:

  • Some Spanish proficiency
  • This opportunity requires an immigration advocate active certificate or prior valid experience with immigration legal support.

Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per week depending on availability and demand.

ESL Tutors / Teachers

Support English learners in practicing English through structured or informal sessions. This opportunity is limited to spots available.

Examples:

  • Lead small-group practice or one-on-one sessions
  • Support English classes through prep or assistance
  • Join conversation nights once a week for conversational practice

Time Commitment: Weekly or biweekly depending on the volunteer's capacity.

Children Camp Volunteer

Join our Children’s Camps and help create fun, safe, and enriching experiences for kids in 8th grade and below.

We host these camps during PIR days"Pupil Instruction-Related" days when schools are closed for teacher training and students have the day off. These days can be challenging for working parents, so our camps provide a low-barrier option where kids can have fun and families don’t have to worry about expensive childcare or kids staying home alone.

As a volunteer, you’ll help plan and lead a variety of activities, such as:

  • Arts and crafts

  • Group games

  • Outdoor play

  • Cooking or science projects

  • Story time or quiet play spaces

Camps are held throughout the school year, and we’ll share upcoming dates with you if you’re interested in being part of this team. It’s a great opportunity for anyone who enjoys working with children, has lots of energy, and wants to make a meaningful impact—even just a few days a year.

Let us know if you’d like to be added to our Children’s Camp volunteer list!

Youth Program Mentor

Join our Youth Program and work alongside our program coordinator to support fun, empowering workshops and outdoor adventures for immigrant and first-generation teens. This program is run in partnership with Big Sky Youth Empowerment (BYEP).

Our teens meet once a week for workshops and every Sunday for outdoor adventures. Volunteers must commit to at least one of those days each week during the 12-week program cycle.

What to expect:

  • Help facilitate workshops on life skills, identity, and community

  • Participate in outdoor adventures such as skiing, biking, climbing, hiking, and more (activities vary by season)

  • Build strong, supportive relationships with teens and model confidence, connection, and curiosity

  • Be a consistent, welcoming presence for youth navigating two cultures

Commitment: At least one day per week for a 12-week session (weekday or Sunday)

Note:
Each season brings a different group of teens depending on their school and availability. We will confirm your schedule based on current seasonal programming.

This is a great opportunity for volunteers who enjoy mentorship, love the outdoors, and are excited to connect with youth in meaningful and active ways.
