Our Story

2019: Planting the Seed

In Fall 2019, a local Quaker group collaborated with Ellen Guettler, Bozeman School District’s English Learner Coordinator, to distribute winter clothing to 12 immigrant families. This effort inspired the creation of the Mentor Program by Tina Visscher, Heather Jackson, Amanda Cater, and Ellen, laying the foundation for a vital support network.

2020: Bridging Hearts

By February 2020, the first Mentor Program training matched 18 volunteers with 7 households. With no budget but abundant community support, these connections became lifelines for families in need of guidance.

2021: Uniting for Change

In 2021, a Steering Committee, including key leaders, developed a volunteer website and pursued nonprofit status. The Migrant Community Collaboration (MCC) launched, advocating for language access and essential resources. In December, Bienvenidos gained its 501(c)(3) status with Hopa Mountain's support.

2022: A Family Bound by Purpose

In January, Bienvenidos held its first Board of Directors meeting, initiating strategic planning. By spring, youth joined local soccer practices, and summer saw kids receiving bikes, attending camps, and skiing through community partnerships. Bienvenidos exceeded its fundraising goal, raising over $62,524.

2023: Building Bridges

In 2023, Bienvenidos provided over $22,000 in direct family support for dental care, emergency aid, and more. The summer featured community playdates, creating valuable connections for families. The organization’s growing impact and increased budget reflected strong community trust.

2024: Rising Together

In 2024, Bienvenidos launched new children’s programs and hired a Bilingual Social Resource Coordinator in Big Sky, expanding its reach. In March, the 40th mentor family match was celebrated. By mid-year, Bienvenidos redefined its mission, vision, and values through a collaborative effort, unveiling a new brand and logo symbolizing its heart and purpose. Despite challenges, Bienvenidos continues to grow, empowering and fostering belonging for the Spanish-speaking community.
